AI project management for Redmine.
Ask about your projects in plain English, let AI agents pick up real work, and connect Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or Cursor to your Redmine – with a person approving every change.
AI project management for Redmine means two Redmineflux plugins working together. The MCP Server connects AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot and Cursor to your Redmine through the open Model Context Protocol. Crux adds AI inside Redmine: Ask Crux, a chat that answers from your Redmine data, and 26 ready-made agents that propose changes – nothing is written until a person approves it.
- Progress: 58 issues, 18% complete – 24 new, 7 in progress, 7 resolved
- Milestones: R1–R3 active; R3 due 25 Sep, 13 days overdue
- Risk: #450337 flagged Immediate, awaiting feedback
Crux wants to make this change. Nothing happens until you confirm.
What you get
Crux
Crux is the AI layer of Redmineflux. It adds two things to your Redmine workspace: Ask Crux, a chat assistant that already knows your projects, issues and agent activity, and Crux agents – specialists that can pick up real work and propose changes.
Answers about projects, issues and agent activity, looked up in Redmine before it replies.
26 ready-made specialists that pick up real work and propose changes for approval.
MCP Server
The MCP server is the bridge between Redmineflux and any AI agent. Power users connect their existing tools – Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, Copilot – directly to the MCP server. Everyone else uses the Redmineflux chatbot built into every page. Same server underneath, one Anthropic or OpenAI key for the whole team.
- Plugin-aware: Timesheet, Workload, Agile Board, Knowledge Base and more expose their own tools.
- Every call checked against the user’s Redmine permissions.
- JSON Lines audit record for every tool call.
From a question to an approved change
- 1Ask
Ask a question or give a task in plain English – in the Ask Crux page or the chat bubble on any Redmine page.
- 2Crux picks an agent
The agent whose skills match takes it – Project Manager, Sales, Support, Time, QA and more. You can also pick one yourself.
- 3The agent plans
It looks up what it needs in your Redmine – issues, projects, time, invoices – using the access it has been given.
- 4You approve
If the request would change data, Crux shows the exact change as an approval card. Nothing happens until a person clicks Confirm.
- 5It is recorded
Every run lands in the Run Ledger with its time, tokens, cost and result.
The AI tools and models you already use
| AI assistants (through the MCP Server) | Claude Desktop and Claude Code (Anthropic) · ChatGPT with MCP enabled (OpenAI) · GitHub Copilot (Microsoft) · Cursor · any custom agent built on the MCP TypeScript or Python SDK |
|---|---|
| Models inside Crux | Anthropic, OpenAI and Google Gemini built in · any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, such as OpenRouter or a local Ollama server |
| Where it runs | Redmineflux Cloud (both included in every package) or your own self-hosted Redmine |
26 ready-made agents in five groups
Or add your own. Each agent is good at one area of your work.
People stay in charge
In chat, a proposed change is only a card until a person confirms it.
A work package cannot move past a gate until a person approves it, whatever the agent’s autonomy level.
Suggest-only, execute-with-approval or autonomous. A suggest-only work package can never write to Redmine.
Fields no agent may ever change – hard limits that no approval can bypass.
A monthly spending cap per agent and a daily chat cap per user.
Crux features are granted per Redmine role. MCP calls are checked against the signed-in user’s Redmine permissions.
The Run Ledger keeps every agent run; the MCP Server writes a JSON Lines audit record for every tool call.
AI for Redmine – answered
What is AI project management for Redmine?
AI project management for Redmine means two Redmineflux plugins working together. The MCP Server connects AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot and Cursor to your Redmine through the open Model Context Protocol. Crux adds AI inside Redmine: Ask Crux, a chat that answers from your Redmine data, and 26 ready-made agents that propose changes – nothing is written until a person approves it.
Do I need both Crux and the MCP Server?
Crux needs the MCP Server – Crux talks to your Redmine through it. The MCP Server also works on its own if you only want to connect tools like Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to Redmine.
Which AI assistants work with Redmineflux?
Through the MCP Server: Claude Desktop and Claude Code, ChatGPT with MCP enabled, GitHub Copilot, Cursor and any custom agent built on the MCP SDK. Inside Crux you can use Anthropic, OpenAI or Google Gemini models, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint such as OpenRouter or a local Ollama server.
Can the AI change my data without asking?
No. A proposed change is only a card until a person confirms it, work packages stop at approval gates, and frozen rules are hard limits that no approval can bypass.
What can Crux agents do?
Crux ships with 26 ready-made agents in five groups – project delivery, sales and finance, support and knowledge, engineering and quality, and Crux helpers. They answer questions from your Redmine data and propose changes such as creating issues or logging time. You can also add your own agents.
Does it work on self-hosted Redmine?
Yes. Crux is $699 and the MCP Server is $149, both one-time for self-hosted Redmine with 1 year of support included. Both are included in every Redmineflux Cloud package, from $69/month for up to 25 users.
Where does my data go?
The MCP Server checks every call against the signed-in user’s Redmine permissions and stores no prompt content unless you opt in. You choose the AI provider, including a local Ollama server, and API keys are kept masked in the Crux key store.
How do we get started?
An administrator sets Crux up once: connect Crux to the Crux core service, add an AI provider and API key, enable the Crux module in each project and grant Crux permissions to the roles that need them. Most teams start with Ask Crux alone.
Put AI to work in your Redmine.
Crux + MCP Server: $848 one-time for self-hosted Redmine, or included in every Cloud package from $69/month.
